Once I asked what the songs were about, where he responded they were about nothing.

Through the first 30 songs from the Narcissists I was making the songs fit to sequentials with

stock photos I have.

Turok

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 by Greg Pak and Mirko Colak begins Dynamite’s revival of classic Gold Key superheroes! Here’s Marc’s review…

Wow, well, that was one of the more shocking endings in recent memory. I was going to call the book out for being frustratingly ambiguous, for not giving the reader a sense of time or place, for being coy with setting and chronology. But then I read the last few pages, and I will say that, if Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 is any indication, Dynamite’s new take on the old Gold Key characters will be one of the more compelling shared universes in contemporary comics.1901909_10203516482256780_1184526272_n

With the new Valiant Universe firing on all cylinders, the one thing missing from those books are the classic Gold Key characters like Turok, Solar, and Magnus. Old School Valiant fans will want to turn their attention over to Dynamite, where a revival of these Gold Key characters has just begun with some serious talent behind the revival. Greg Pak and Mirko Colak know their genre; the book feels like a classic Turok tale, with lush, atmospheric art and a story fraught with a welcoming anachronistic feel. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 establishes Turok as an outsider from an unidentified tribe of indigenous peoples. He stands outside his tribe, has an (ironic) compassion for lizards, and tends to run afoul of the tribal version of bullies. It’s a pleasant coming of age story, but a reader, especially a seasoned Turok reader, will be a bit distracted from the narrative by the overwhelming question of, “Where the heck are the dinosaurs?”

Cute TUROK3 Haeser SmithWell, Greg Pak has to establish Turok and his people first. As mentioned, at first, it’s distracting that the story doesn’t tell the reader when or where the story takes place. The reader’s brain knows to expect dinosaurs, but how and when? Is this story set in another dimension, a hidden Savage Land like world, or something else? When the question is answered, the whole book comes into focus and a world arrives fully realized on the page with endless potential. It’s not the Turok book many will suspect, but with the last page reveal (which I won’t spoil here), many will realize that it’s the only Turok book they will ever want.

The dinosaurs are scary, adopting avian characteristics, and while this issue doesn’t reveal how they exist, it does reveal who controls them, and that is the heart of what is bound to be a compelling historic conflict. Turok’s nature as an outsider makes him an ironic hero to his people, but it also will make him a fascinating protagonist to follow. Many will not be familiar with Colak, but one look at the opening pages of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 makes it clear that this is an artist on the rise. His landscapes are breathtaking and his action and designs are masterful.

TUROK2 Cute Cover Haeser SmithIt’s a crowded market these days with the racks filled with a multitude of shared universes vying for reader attention. One must ask if the old Gold Key heroes, characters that have been out of the public eye for a long time, have a place in today’s market? The answer is, with books like Turok that aren’t afraid to take chances and tell a surprising and nuanced tale, yes, yes they do.

This is going to be an exciting universe to watch.

he comic book Battlestar Galactica, based on the ABC television series of the same name, was published monthly by Marvel Comics from March 1979 through January 1981, and lasted 23 issues.

Dynamite Entertainment, as well as publishing a series based on the new Battlestar Galactica, began publishing Classic Battlestar Galactica based on the original series and set during the early part of the series.

Dynamite has also started another series, Battlestar Galactica: Cylon Apocalypse, that takes place at an undetermined time after the series ended. Absolute Wonderland

Page 1: 1 panel over splash page

Panel: Monica pulls on goggles

Monica: Lock n Load, I have been waiting for this ALL DAY!

Panel 2: As the team repels from high, they shoot out the card soldiers.

Text box 1: Years ago a medical researcher created a virtual world of fantasy in an attempt to bring coma patients back to consciousness. The rules were simple. Follow the white rabbit.

Text box 2: Something went wrong, one of the test subjects rooted themselves in and corrupted the program. Now the inmates are running the asylum. With the entire world connected through the internet, this  virtual reality no longer exists solely on one server, it’s in the cloud and impossible to stop.

Text box 3: What came next was a series of brutal attacks on the real world. The military needs to send troops in to take the enemy out before they seize the next computer system. Power plants, missle silos, who knows what’s next?

Text box 4: So with global security in danger, why are they following my lead, a simple private in the US Army? Because the Cheshire Cat told them I was special. It seems that as a child I was part of the initial test group. The program responds to me.

Text box 5: Welcome to Wonderland.

Page 2

Panel 1: Team lands among the scattered remains of the card soldiers.

Allison: We’ve arrived at the location. No visual contact yet, keep looking! The Hatter said it would be here!

Monica: Right, she also introduced herself as the Son of the Riverboat Queen! Not entirely sure that makes her much of a source.

Allison: Are you looking or talking?

Panel 2: military operatives around a computer.

Tech: Heads up, we are detecting a serious data stream spiking in your vicinity.

Panel 3: Allison on comm., Monica locking her guns and excited looking up at Jabberwocky in the distance approaching.

 Allison: Negative, I don’t see….

Monica: Aww yeah baby, that’s what I’m talking about!

Voice from comm.: What?

Allison: Target acquired, moving fast!

I had a lot of fun with this Illustration of Alice in her Bedroom. All kinds of fun things to put in this one , from the rabbit to the cheshire cat an much more. Alice really needed to be a bad ass, from the way Keith wanted to make her in these story. She would be so hard. I really wish this  project to wake up, with the right time to dedication into this… wow! Here is a drawing of the Hatter… I was looking to make her a dirty dark morbid psychopath. Keith gave me some photos of a friend of his for reference.

Page 3:

Panel 1: Jabberwocky flies over head as Monica leads the chase, guns firing as the others run to keep up

Monica: I have SOOO got this!

Allison: Monica, fall back!

 Panel 2: military at computer

Allison’s voice from the computer: Sir, it’s moving too fast, be ready to mobilize! It’s looking to exit in the Ohio/Michigan area. Stand by!

General: Damn it Private, get me closer! Gibson, deploy Red Squadron Tango!

Gibson at computer:  Yes sir, Red team, do you copy? Mobilize!

Panel 3: Soldiers on airfield prepare to take off

Soldier: Affirmative Echo, we are in the air in 5. Over.

Page 4:

Panel 1: Monica runs full speed off the edge of the cliff while the rest of the team stops quick and Allison reaches out for her belt.

 Allison: Monica STOP!

Monica: I’ve got this!

Panel 2: Jabberwocky escapes through a hole in the sky as Allison holds Monica by the belt, Monica hanging over the cliff.

Allison: We lost it, IP Address 12.221.08.34443, over! Dammit girl, you’re going to get yourself killed!

Monica: Living’s not living if you spend it afraid of dying.

Panel 3: Helicopters approaching an auto plant

Radio bubbles: Sir, that’s an Automotive Plant in Detroit! It’s not even a military target!

Panel 4: Soldiers lining up at the large doors. Weapons ready as loud crashes are heard from within, lights in small windows flashing like strobes

Voice on radio: It is now.

 Page 5

: Full page of Jabberwocky ripping out of the plant, fire and sparks and whatever you want to draw. Military men in foreground shooting and yelling into radio

Solidier: Come in Echo Base, we’re going to need reinforcements! STAT! Cannot contain! I reapeat, CANNOT CONTAIN!

Radio: What is it?Soldier: Sir, you ever see Jurassic Park?
